Our Values
We're in it together because...
Christ Community Church was established in 1954 by the Shantymen to bring the good news of Jesus Christ to people living in Ucluelet and the surrounding area.
Today, we are affiliated with the Evangelical Free Church of Canada and continue to bring that same good news to our friends and neighbors. We're a diverse group from many backgrounds working together as one body to be "light and salt" in our community, to show the hope that we have in our hearts because of Jesus Christ.
At Christ Community, we believe that the church isn't just the building, the pastor, preaching or music. We believe that the church is the people. We gather together in Spirit and in truth to worship Jesus Christ, the author and perfecter of our salvation. He brings us together, He builds us up and empowers us by his Spirit, and He deserves the glory. The church is his body - his eyes, his ears, his hands and feet expressing his heart.
Church is not just Sunday morning. Church is Jesus living in and through us in the everyday stuff of life.
...we are the church, and it's not just a Sunday morning thing.
Commission
Mission is why the Church exists.
The Church is a movement, not an institution.
Every follower of Jesus is commissioned by God.
See: John 3:1-8; Acts 1:8; 8:1-14; Acts 2; Acts 8:26-40; Luke 4:14-21; Genesis 2:4-7; Ezekiel 37:1-10; Mark 4:41
Connection
Structure for mission must always submit to the Word & the Spirit.
The Church is empowering, not controlling.
Every follower of Jesus is called and connected uniquely to serve.
See: 1Cor. 12; John 15:1-17; Romans 11; Matthew 9:14-17; Romans 12:3-8; John 15:2; Jeremiah 31:31; 2Cor. 3
Community
Love is the context for all mission.
The Church is relational, not programmatic.
Every follower of Jesus is part of a larger community.
See: John 4; John 13:34-35; 1 John 4:7-21; Psalm 42:1; Psalm 1:1-3; Isaiah 32:1-3;
Isaiah 58; John 7:25-44
Communion
Relevance of mission to culture is not optional.
The Church is incarnational, not secretive.
Every follower of Jesus celebrates communion with God.
See: John 1:14; Philippians 2:5-9; Acts 13: 36; Acts 17:16-34; Romans 12:1-2; Genesis 22; Exodus 3; 1Kings 18:16-39; Psalm 51; 1Corinthians 9:19-23; Hebrews 12:29; 1 Cor. 14
Character
Creativity and growth is the natural result of spirituality.
The Church is transforming, not conforming.
Every follower of Jesus grows in Christ-like character.
See: Matthew 25:14-30; Luke 8:4-15; 2Cor. 5:17-21; Ephesians 4:17-5:2; Genesis 2:7; Isaiah 64:8; 2Cor. 4:7-11
We're associated with the Evangelical Free Church of Canada.
Since we voluntarily belong to an association of churches under the Evangelical Free Church of Canada, we also enthusiastically embrace the values (entitled "Our Character and Calling") that are shared by the greater body of like-minded churches that are consistent with the values articulated above.
